‘Look at the nations and watch – and be utterly amazed, for I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.’ Habakkuk 1:5, 2:3
The Uganda team is scheduled to arrive home today at 3:40 pm. Please continue to pray for safe travels home.
Welcome back Team!
8/9/2010
In light of the good report we have heard from the team in Uganda, we feel compelled to quote a part of the passage that Craig preached on this morning. 'Thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him.' 2 Corinthians 2:14
August 9-11:
Meet with contacts in Kampala; depart for the States
‘May God be gracious to us and bless us and make His face shine upon us, that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations. May the peoples praise you, O’God. May all the peoples praise you. May the nations be glad and sing for joy for you rule the peoples justly and guide the nations of the earth. May the peoples praise you, O’ God, may all the peoples praise you. Then the Land will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless us. God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear him.' Psalm 67
Pray for:

Update from Kathy:
God continues to amaze us with Himself! We are so full after hearing the ongoing responses of the women at the conference...words of gratitude affirm the great need fitted so well with the Entrust method. Whatever doubts or fears we might have carried with us have not only vanished but been replaced with overwhelming sense of awe that the Lord would choose us to bring such truth to the aid of these servants. For your own hearing/believing we have captured their expressions of thankful gratitude to God for having answered prayer in such miraculous ways. One of our favorite comments likened this training as the missing tool they have needed for so long; as though trying to garden without a hoe. How glad we are to be here watching the eyes open and smiles spread across their faces when they discover deep truth for themselves--the looks of amazement when some simple concept sets an entire problem with interpretation free. There has been difficulty with getting them to grasp the importance of observation. The model demonstrated for so long has been to read one isolated verse then plunge right into whatever meaning the 'Spirit" reveals. Pray as tomorrow, we take a closer look at the pitfalls of such an approach as well as the place of the Holy Spirit in understanding and teaching.
All in all, this has been one of the most difficult trips from start to arrival but the smoothest once on the ground!! It is as though the enemy was bound and determined to keep us from coming but has turned tail and fled once we set foot on the beautiful soil of this anointed place.
We are not ever done resisting the devil though, as you well know, so pray on!! Please do not grow weary of the promise you made to cover us with your prayers.
We wish each of you were here with us in body rather than just in the Spirit. Know that we love you so much and have not forgotten to lift you up b/4 our great God and Father!
ALL praise be to Him who sits on the throne,
Kathy, for the team
Update from Lori:
God has continued to be faithful to lead and provide. For example, as we were face with the difficulty of communicating a great deal of information across cultures and language, we asked the Lord to show us how. Early in the morning before our next session, the Lord redirected me to use the Book of Ruth to communicate the material in the manual. Then, I happened to come across resource from a seminar that Bible Study Fellowship uses as a guide for personal study. The questions for study preparation lined up perfectly with the types of questions the women would be asked to craft to lead good discussions, so we were able to teach the women how to prepare as well as how to facilitate good discussion simultaneously. Further, the women related well to the story of widows and famine.
One dear woman Lucy, shared in our group how she had lost her husband 10 years ago and how one of her four children had died recently. We wept with her who then encouraged us saying that the Word of God and the women around her had enabled her to continue in hope and faith despite her sorrow and dire circumstances. Conducting health training seminars in remote villages around Lira, she desires to use storytelling combined with good questions in the context of God's word and a group of women to minister to them as she has been ministered to this week.
Other women continue to exclaim that they have never been shown how to study the Bible. Challenged by how the truths confront the lies prevalent in their culture, these women have surprised and inspired us with their rich insights into we have been discovering in Ruth. Jeninah and Bethany have been an immense help in clarifying and simplifying difficult instruction regarding the different types of questions that enabled a breakthrough with the women.
We are beginning to shed many tears at the thought of concluding our time of fellowship, praise, and training with the women. We were particularly blessed today when Joyce looked beyond her own poverty to pray for the people of Sudan! How grateful we are to have been given the opportunity to such precious, committed, and hardworking servants of God. They have been working so hard on asking good questions that they have stayed well past the close of each training to continue working. We ask you to pray that the Lord would enable us to complete our study in and compilation of discussion questions for the entire book of Ruth tomorrow.
Using only four soccer balls, Manning and the boys are enjoying the street boys. They met the awesome challenge of organizing 90 of them today. We all celebrated the arrival of all but one of our bags--the one with all of the balls in them. They were able to distribute socks, shoes, shorts, and shirts to the boys today :) When asked if this experience had increased their faith. both Adam and Joel responded with a resounding Oh yeah! That's all I can get wordwise, but the enthusiasm and joy I see on their faces each evening after a long day of playing in the equatorial sun speaks much more !
Missing You all!
8/4/2010
Your prayers are working and God is answering! Our God is good and faithful to hear us.
An update from the team:
Adam said that the soccer camp is going great. They've had 80 boys and they are all very well behaved and working with the translators has gone well also. Kathy said the teaching is going better than expected and the curriculum they are using is the perfect fit for their culture. The ladies said they have never heard anything like this before - they are used to just reading a verse and just talking about it, rather than actually studying the Bible. Six of the bags arrived today and they expect the other four to arrive tomorrow. All in all everyone is doing well and loving it.

For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. RPC prayer team
God has again been faithful to provide and bless us abundantly. Manning and the boys have reported that the soccer camp was a huge success today! Sixty street boys participated and had a wonderful time with our team. Joel says the camp was great while Adam replied it was awesome. They have befriended many of the boys and cannot wait for tomorrow. This afternoon, they are headed to a school close by. Though they did not have equipment needed for the drills planned, Manning planned other games that the kids loved! The team exclaimed It's already going so well--just wait until we have our stuff! No word yet on the bags--keep praying for the arrival.
Though we had to begin the women's conference without all of our supplies, we had the content of the training materials that the Eby's had copied for us in Kampala. Bethany did a beautiful job telling the story of the Woman at the Well (John 4) and demonstrating how to use storytelling as an invaluable teaching tool for children and those who are unable to read the Bible. Kathy followed up with a demonstration of the Entrust Method through asking good questions to draw women into the text to discover many of the truths in the bible for themselves. The rich discussion and enthusiasm among the 15 women barely allowed us time to cover the passage! Lillian Ocari, the Mother's Union President for the Anglican Church in Lira pulled one of us aside and explained that just last night a group of leaders had gathered to discuss and pray over how they could provide a place for women to talk about their many struggles. She exclaimed that the discussion in the context of the Word of God within a group of women modeled by our team and experienced by the leaders was the perfect way to reach these women who struggle. Jeninah Nagaaba who works with the widows of Banda Slum and Life Ministry of Campus Crusade shared how she could not wait to get home to facilitate discussions as the one she enjoyed today. Florence and Joyce who are educators by profession and leaders in their community and churches told us that they planned to use their training received this week to reach more leaders at a women's conference they have been planning for the end of August, so they praised God for his perfect timing. We were encouraged that 2/3's of the women were teachers, some English, Mathematics, and primary. God is good and confirmed that our church is heading in the right direction in equipping the leaders and ministering to the oppressed of Lira! Continue to pray for a smooth, adequate transfer of the tools we are sharing with the leaders to the youth and women in the district of bleeding hearts.
8/1/2010
The team has safely arrived in Lira! After the prayer items is part of an email from Lori with a few updates.

So do not fear, for I am with you, do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.’ Isaiah 41:9-10

Dear Jason and praying supporters,
All of us on the team miss our families but anticipate what great things God will do on behalf of his servants in Lira! We thank you for praying, for God has answered many of your prayers. Educating, encouraging, and seeing to logistical needs--transportation, baggage search, money exchange as well as feeding us and providing a place of rest after three days of travel, Dave and Darlene Eby have taken such good care of us.
We have reached Lira early this afternoon and met with Uncle Fred who has coordinated with Manning and seven youth leaders from a variety of churches to provide a week-long soccer camp for 100 street boys. They planned for about thirty, so we praise God that he has provided an abundance of youth for our team to minister to. The bags with the soccer equipment have not yet arrived, so we ask you to pray for our team who will have the challenge of organizing devotions, drills, and games with two soccer balls and a couple of orange cones loaned to us by the Eby's. We look forward to seeing how God will enable Manning, Joel, Adam, and the volunteers who although having very little trust Him to provide.
We also had the privilege of visiting a prison with Uncle Fred who goes every Sunday with a message of encouragement for those who are held in captivity. Of course as always in Uganda, Fred asked each of us to address the men wearing little clothing, ripped and torn and no shoes. A look of fear passed over Joel and Adam's faces as they awaited their turn. Neither one of them have even been to a prison in their own country! Praising God with these imprisoned believers and encouraging them with the love and acceptance of their Father has been one of our greatest joys thus far. They represent all of us held in bondage by sin, yet we praised the Lord that by the atoning blood of His Son we can stand forgiven and righteous before our Father. By the power of the indwelling Spirit we can be renewed to spur one another to good works. As Fred handed each man a piece of soap, he urged them to share with their brothers outside. We feel called to share a some of our discretionary funds given specifically for the oppressed believers, so pray for God's guidance.
The womens's conference begins tomorrow--Bethany will demonstrate then teach the storytelling method; then, Kathy will model entrust questions on the Woman at the Well (John 4). Continue to pray.
In Faith and Humility,
Uganda Mission Team 2010

Got word this morning that the team was re-routed and delayed for the night in Columbus, OH last night due to weather. They flew to Atlanta this morning and will fly out to Amsterdam from Atlanta tonight at 5:00 pm and will arrive in Kampala late Friday night (7:50 pm). They will fly out to Lira on Sunday morning. This delay has created a one-day delay to the plan which require several adjustments to their plan and travel arrangements.
Despite the one day delay, we know that our God is sovereign - even over the weather and flight schedules. So, we trust that this one-day delay is all part of His sovereign will for the team and this trip. Let us watch our Lord at work and be anxious for nothing, but in prayer and petition, let our requests be known to our God.
'The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.' Isaiah 58:11 'I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, you are my servant, I have chosen you and have not rejected you. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.' Isaiah 41:9-10
Please pray for the following:
- Safe travel, protection and smooth flight connections to Kampala and Lira
- Unhindered communication between the team and RPC prayer team and the Ugandan contacts in Kampala and Lira
- Delays can cause anxiousness and worry about how the rest of the week will progress, please pray that the team will rest in God's sovereignty and not be given into the fear of uncertainty

Summer Mission Trip to Uganda!
Redeemer Presbyterian Church is excited to inform the congregation that we will be sending a small team to Uganda in late July and early August.
Background
As part of a long-term commitment to Uganda, our church has made two trips in three years to Lira, a small city in northern Uganda. On those trips we held two pastors conferences where more than one hundred pastors from many denominations were taught theology and biblical principals primarily by pastor Craig.
In addition, we made contact with the widows of Christian workers, Jeninah and Grace, whose children we support with educational funds. The sale of the handcrafted beads made from paper enable them to minister the widows of the Banda Slum. We have also formed relationships with prominent women who minister to the needy throughout Lira.
On the last trip to Uganda, the pastors and women leaders expressed that their greatest need was for structured Bible training for church growth and discipleship. The leadership of Redeemer Presbyterian Church adopted a tool for Biblical, small-group teacher training called Entrust. While effective here at home, this method was designed specifically for cross-cultural opportunities around the world. Entrust exists to "assist the church in responding to the global cry for servant leaders through accessible, transformational, biblical training." God has clearly placed this tool in our hands that we might faithfully transfer it into the hands of these dear Ugandan pastors and women leaders of Lira.
The Plan for this Summer
From July 28 to August 12 we will send a team of five people to Uganda. Kathy Bailey and Lori Moore have been trained and will teach women leaders of Lira in the Entrust program. This will be the main focus of this mission trip.
At the same time, Manning Pruden, an experienced Christian athlete who attended RPC while living in Charleston, will conduct a soccer-camp ministry for street boys of Lira. Along with running the camp, her main focus is the transfer of this ministry and materials to the church leaders there. Two high school boys from our congregation, Adam Bailey and Joel Moore, will assist Manning with the soccer camp.
What Next?
- In January of 2011, we plan to do Entrust teacher training for Ugandan pastors. The details of this still must be worked out.
- We may consider bringing some Ugandan pastors to RPC. They have suffered, labored in Christ's vineyard, grown in wisdom, faith, hope, and intercessory prayer. We believe they could revive our own hearts toward greater passion for Christ, love for the lost, and intercessory prayer.
Please Pray
- Pray for the mission trip this summer.
- Pray for Kathy Bailey and Lori Moore as they prepare to go and teach the women leaders.
- Pray for Manning Pruden, Joel Moore, and Adam Bailey as they show God's love to the street children of Lira using the soccer camp.
- Pray for the plans for training Ugandan pastors for next January.
