Advocacy

With Redeemer’s move to downtown Charleston, many new opportunities to share the Gospel exist, ministering both to the disadvantaged and the elite. Throughout the last year, the Advocacy team has embraced one such opportunity—serving our neighbors who are in need. Advocacy is supplying the wanting, befriending the friendless, encouraging the hopeless, speaking for those with no voice, and showing the world God’s grace, mercy, goodness, and love. Advocacy is Redeemer’s “catch-all” for mercy ministry.

The Ten Commandments are summarized by Jesus as “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” and “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:36-40).

Responding to the saving grace we all have experienced and resting alone in that God first loved us, we are motivated to answer God’s call to love our neighbors. Our neighbors are the wanting, the friendless, the hopeless, those with no voice, and those in the world ready to receive God’s grace, mercy, goodness, and love. The Advocacy team meets with neighbors, reaching out to those with spiritual, financial, and emotional needs. The Advocacy team also seeks to build relationships with our neighbors to better understand their needs, enabling us to work together to resolve crisis and move toward stability.
